Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a smart, highly-capable engineer to lead projects and participate in design, development and testing of the mechanical elements of Greensight’s custom-developed  UAV’s, ground, and amphibious robots.  The position requires a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering and at least a year of hands-on experience with mechanical robotic systems. The mechanical engineer works as part of a small tight-knit development team consisting of a variety of specialized engineers. They must have strong written and verbal communications skills, and be comfortable communicating via Slack and e-mail in a fast paced, small team startup environment.

Qualifications / Requirements

Specific tasks that might be performed by the mechanical engineer include:

  • Creating and analyzing UAV and robot concepts 
  • Completing detailed designs (sufficient for manufacture) of mechanical components in CAD
  • Building prototype components in our machine shop or via 3D printing
  • Optimizing parts and assemblies for mass manufacture (injection molding, for instance)
  • Overseeing manufacture of prototype components at outside vendors.
  • Leading overall mechanical assembly of prototype UAV’s and subsystems.
  • Testing and characterization of UAV and robot propulsion systems
  • Participating in flight testing of prototype UAV’s.
  • Performing structural and thermal analysis of components and assemblies
  • Contributing to company wide quality management efforts
  • Managing development programs
  • Contributing to proposals and business development efforts

Compensation / Benefits

We are seeking an intellectually curious and highly capable Robotics Controls Engineer to be a high-level contributor on the development of software for our drones and other robotic systems. You will scope, plan, and execute control systems development and implementation across GreenSight's technology portfolio including air and ground robotic systems. Example projects might include developing and implementing the control system for transitioning an aerial vehicle from hovering to forward flight, sensor integration and control laws for an variable buoyancy underwater robot that can roll or swim, or deriving the Newton-Euler equations for a two armed climbing construction robot. You should be comfortable working semi-autonomously while meeting long-term goals.

Qualifications / Requirements

Attributes relevant to the position (not all required) include:

  • MS, or PhD in robotics, control systems, or related field and 5+ years professional (not internship) work experience
  • Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles
  • Competency in C or C++, Python
  • Ability to develop control laws for new and unique robot configurations
  • Simulation development using ROS, Gazebo, MuJoCo, Airsim and/or Unreal Engine
  • Formulate software definitions and simulation/control models for novel aircraft and robot configurations in flight and robot control systems such as APM, PX4

Our prospective hires will help build and operate UAV's and robots as well as participate in the design and test of new systems such as super-high-performance aircraft (multicopters and fixed wing), swarming systems, autonomous systems that integrate both flying and wheeled robots,  cloud-based analysis software, advanced avionic platforms, and AI software tools that improve reliability and safety of platforms. 

We're looking for 5 Engineering Co-ops to help us develop UAVs, robots (ground/amphibious/underwater), software systems (including software for processing data), propulsion, and other associated robotic systems.  The co-ops will work fulltime from January through June July or August 2025. Our Coop positions are for a MINIMUM OF 5 MONTHS.

We purposefully keep this job description unusually broad, because we have a wide enough variety of ongoing work that we can hire students from a wide variety of majors. In the past we've hired students studying mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, and business, both undergraduates and masters students. We are seeking a hands-on and versatile electrical engineer to help design and produce the growing range of avionics, sensors, propulsion systems, radios and cameras that we use on our UAVs and robots. You must be comfortable rolling up your sleeves and tackling any electronic problem that arises.

Qualifications / Requirements

Core skills we are looking for:

  • Circuit and PCB design software such as KiCAD or Altium
  • Familiarity with setting up and using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
  • Electrical test and acceptance test design and implementation
  • Electrical prototyping skills including soldering and reflow SMT components, breadboarding proto circuits, and modifying PCBAs
  • Familiarity with PCB production and assembly

Desired, but not required, experience:

  • Aircraft electronics, avionics and sensors
  • Microcontrollers and associated circuits
  • Power electronics such as switch mode supplies, BLDC motor controllers and battery management circuits
