Senior Mechanical Engineer (Design for Manufacturing)

We have built one of the most widely deployed automated drone intelligence platforms in the world, and develop products combining robotics, remote sensing, artificial intelligence and communications. We are seeking a smart, highly-capable engineer to lead projects and participate in design, development and testing of Greensight’s custom-developed UAV’s, ground, and amphibious robots. GreenSight is planning to expand production of two of our current robot types from a few hundred per year, to tens of thousands per year. We are specifically looking for a mechanical engineer with expertise designing products for cost-effective mass production. The mechanical engineer will work as part of a small tight-knit development team consisting of a variety of specialized engineers.

Qualifications / Requirements

Requirements for this position include:

  • At least a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering and at least 5 years of work experience.. 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Comfort Communicating via Slack and e-mail in a fast paced, small team startup environment.

Specific tasks that might be performed by the mechanical engineer include:

  • Completing detailed designs (sufficient for manufacture) of mechanical components in CAD
  • Optimizing parts and assemblies for mass manufacture (injection molding, for instance)
  • Overseeing manufacture of prototype components at outside vendors
  • Creating prototype components in our machine shop or via 3D printing
  • Performing structural and thermal analysis of components and assemblies
  • Contributing to company wide quality management efforts
  • Leading new project development efforts
  • Contributing to proposals and business development efforts

If you have experience with any of the following, we would be very interested to hear from you!

  • Successful maturation of a proof of concept/prototype into a product
  • High strength/low weight injection molding
  • Design of parts for low cost, high-volume products
  • Design of waterproof electromechanical assemblies

Compensation / Benefits

Salary for this position is strongly dependent on experience and education and starts at $140K.  Compensation package includes stock options, health insurance, short and long term disability, and 401k with match. GreenSight offers a 9/80 flexible work schedule, and gives everyone the week between Christmas and New Years off in addition to their 15 days of paid vacation.

You will scope, plan, and execute autonomy software systems development and implementation across GreenSight's technology portfolio including air and ground robotic systems. You should be comfortable working semi-autonomously while meeting long-term goals.

Qualifications / Requirements

Attributes relevant to the position (not all required) include:

  • MS, or PhD in robotics, embedded software, or related field and 5+ years professional (not internship) work experience
  • Localization and perception algorithms using vision, LIDAR, depth cameras and/or radar
  • Experience implementing SLAM algorithms
  • Experience developing software for autonomous robots and aircraft
  • Competency in Python, C or C++
  • Simulation development using ROS, Gazebo, Airsim and/or Unreal Engine
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate software definitions and simulation/control models for novel aircraft and robot configurations in flight control systems such as APM, PX4
  • Experience optimizing algorithms for embedded systems with limited compute power
  • Familiarity with software development process tools such as Jira, git, gdb, etc.
  • Good written/verbal communication skills

Example projects might include developing and implementing the control system for transitioning an aerial vehicle from hovering to forward flight, sensor integration and control laws for an variable buoyancy underwater robot that can roll or swim, or deriving the Newton-Euler equations for a two armed climbing construction robot. You should be comfortable working semi-autonomously while meeting long-term goals.

Electrical Engineer

GreenSight is seeking candidates looking to be involved in scaling autonomous robotic systems globally in ways that have never been done before.

We are seeking a hands-on and versatile electrical engineer to help design and produce the growing range of avionics, sensors, propulsion systems, radios and cameras that we use on our UAVs and robots. You must be comfortable rolling up your sleeves and tackling any electronic problem that arises.

GreenSight works on cutting edge technologies and assumes that employees will routinely learn new skills on the job. We value creativity, drive and proven ability to pick up new skills over specific past experience and skills.

Qualifications / Requirements

Core skills we are looking for:

  • Circuit and PCB design software such as KiCAD or Altium
  • Familiarity with setting up and using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
  • Electrical test and acceptance test design and implementation
  • Electrical prototyping skills including soldering and reflow SMT components, breadboarding proto circuits, and modifying PCBAs
  • Familiarity with PCB production and assembly

Desired, but not required, experience:

  • Aircraft electronics, avionics and sensors
  • Microcontrollers and associated circuits
  • Power electronics such as switch mode supplies, BLDC motor controllers and battery management circuits
  • Integration of imaging sensors and camera systems
  • RF design and test
  • Project leadership and proposals

Compensation / Benefits

Salary for this position is strongly dependent on experience and education and expected to be between $90k and $140k.
